Wednesday, June 28, 2006Sketch #91: "Closeup" I went for a somewhat minimalist look for this sketch, both in the drawing and in the cropping/lighting after I photographed it. Ted |

Monday, June 26, 2006Sketch #90 And here's yet another 3/4 view sketch. I think this one has the best ear I've drawn so far. It still doesn't look quite right to me, but I think I'm getting closer :) Ted |

Friday, June 23, 2006Sketch #89 As I continue to work on the 3/4 angle (more or less), I think that I'm drawing the noses a bit more accurately. The gap between the nose and the mouth on this one, however, looks a little too large to me. Some the sketches from this site (and some of my other other creations) are now available for use as personal "avatars" on message boards/forums/etc. here. Ted |

Thursday, June 22, 2006Sketch #88 In this sketch, as in so many of the others I've posted before, I have the hair falling off to the right of the page. I'll have to try a few with the hair going the other way sometime. Ted |

Wednesday, June 21, 2006Sketch #87 I think the expression on Sketch #87 looks more realistic to me than the one on this one. I did like the way her hair turned out though. Ted |

Monday, June 19, 2006Sketch #86 I've been trying sketches where the subject is looking off the the side a bit rather than the staring straight ahead. I don't think I got the lower nose region quite right on this one. I'll have to focus on that area and practive some more. Ted |

Saturday, June 17, 2006Sketch #85 I like this sketch, but I think I drew the face a touch too wide ... maybe the eyes are just a little farther apart than they should be. Ted |
||
Friday, June 16, 2006Sketch #84 This sketch is actually a modified tracing of the one I posted two days ago. (I wanted to see what she would look like with long hair and no hat). I didn't use actual tracing paper (whoops!) so it differs from the original drawing more so than would otherwise be the case. Ted |

Wednesday, June 14, 2006Sketch #83: "Woman Wearing Hat" This is the second time I've posted a sketch of a woman in a hat. I thought it turned out reasonably well, although I think I prefer the first sketch (posted on the 15th of April) Ted |

Monday, June 12, 2006Sketch #82: "Open Mouth Smile" As the title implies, here's another one with the teeth showing. Lately I tend to prefer the "closed lip" smile, but I like to mix it up a bit. I think the shadowing gives her more of a 3D look than some of my previous sketches. Ted |

Saturday, June 10, 2006Sketch #81 Another day, another sketch :) I her the lips are her best feature. Ted |

Friday, June 9, 2006Sketch #80: "A Pretty Princess Ponders Pensively" She strikes me as a medieval princess, deep in thought (hence the title). I think I lucked out drawing the dress. I just doodled away at it, not really sure exactly what the result was going to be. I think it ended up being better than if I had planned it :) Ted |

Wednesday, June 7, 2006Sketch #79: "Long Straight Hair" I think this sketch is my favorite so far. I was particularly happy with the way her hair turned out. Ted |
||
Monday, June 5, 2006Sketch #78 I tried something a little different for this sketch - I used tracing paper to go over one of my previous sketches as a starting point, correcting flaws, making changes etc. I wasn't sure how well the tracing paper would perform compared to the Strathmore drawing paper I usually use (it was ligher and thinner of course), but I can't say it gave me any great problems. All in all, I was pleased with the experiment. I definitely plan to do more "tracing-based" sketches soon :) Ted |
||
Friday, June 2, 2006Sketch #77 I went with the "bright sunny day" lighting on this sketch. It seemed to fit. On an logistical note, I reorganized the archives to one page per month, to better conform to traditional blog structure and keep the site from getting too unwieldy. Ted |

Thursday, June 1, 2006Sketch #76 I did a fair amount of erasing/redrawing/blending/etc. in the chin area of this sketch. The good news is that I managed to get the mouth and chin to line up pretty well in relationship to eachother and to the face as a whole. The bad news is that things got a bit "smudgy" around the chin. Oh well, win a little, lose a little :) Ted |
