Tuesday, January 30, 2007Sketch #211 Although I'm certainly not above employing a little digital editing (or even a lot of it) on my sketches, I posted this one in a relatively unaltered state. I took special care to create a shine on the lips in the drawing stage so that I wouldn't feel the need to do so after scanning the sketch into the computer. Ted |

Monday, January 29, 2007Sketch #210 I think the woman in this sketch is deep in her thoughts, probably happy thoughts I'd say from her expression. Ted |
Friday, January 26, 2007Sketch #209 I went for a softer, more subtle sunshine effect with the digital editing of this sketch (than that in the previous post), leaving the coloration much closer to to the original gray. Ted |
Wednesday, January 24, 2007Sketch #208 I added some digital effects to this sketch to (among other things) give the impression of sunlight. I've been doing more of that sort of thing lately - it's rather addictive :) For the purists among you who prefer to look at the original (relatively unaltered) sketch, it's available here. Ted |

Monday, January 22, 2007Sketch #207 I did a LOT of erasing and redrawing in the process of creating this sketch. One of the things I love about working with graphite (as opposed to watercolors, for example) is that mistakes are relatively easy to fix. Ted |

Saturday, January 20, 2007Sketch #206 Here's a happy lady. I still need to work on my ear drawing skills, but I do think the ear here is at least somewhat of an improvement over that in #202. Ted |

Thursday, January 18, 2007Sketch #205 Sometimes cropping can make a big difference. I was somewhat lukewarm towards this sketch at a wider view, but I think it ended up being one of my better closeups. Ted |
Tuesday, January 16, 2007Sketch #204 I figured I was about due for posting a side view, having not done so since #188, back in December. Ted |
Monday, January 15, 2007Sketch #203 I'll have to admit to some pretty substantial digital editing of this sketch. I felt the unmodified sketch had potential which was only going to be realized if I took that route ... so here it is. Ted |

Friday, January 12, 2007Sketch #202 I've had a number of sketches where I've wished that I'd drawn the hair going behind the neck and coming over the other side (after it was too late). This time I managed to think of it while it was still possible :) Ted |

Wednesday, January 10, 2007Sketch #201 Here's another sketch with the subject's hair falling off to the left of the page. In some ways, I prefer the one I posted on January 3, but at least I drew the eyes in better proportion this time. I did a fair amount of "drawing with the eraser" to create some of the lighter streaks in her hair. Ted |

Monday, January 8, 2007Sketch #200 Well, 200 sketches and counting! I put a little extra time into this one, as I really wanted it to turn out nice :) Ted |
Wednesday, January 4, 2007Sketch #199 This is the second sketch I've posted where the subject is wearing glasses (the first being sketch #194 from Dec. 29). I think her glasses look more modern than those in the earlier sketch, which look like they came out of the 50's. Ted |
Tuesday, January 3, 2007Sketch #198 This sketch was a very similar pose to #196, but I think the subject turned out a lot prettier this time. Ted |
Monday, January 2, 2007Sketch #197 The woman in this sketch cleaned up nicely. I usually do at least some editing in Corel Photopaint after I scan a sketch. Some sketches require a lot of editing, others not so much. Happily, this one fell into the latter category :) Ted |
Monday, January 1, 2007Sketch #196 I think I'll start the new year with a Haiku appropriate both to the sketch and the time of year: It was New Year's Eve. She Stayed up too late it seems. Now she's a bit tired. Ted |
